We are now for more than a month in Argentina and for almost two weeks in El Bolson where we were supposed to stay. As I already said, we passed through really beautifull landscape and we still have a lot to see. For the moment, we have some ballads in the mountains in the afternoons and week-ends while we work on the mornings. The situation in the farm changed from what we expected. The deal was to work four hours and to be provided for three meals a day but the host changed the term of the volunteering to six hours without any notice. So, we made the deal to have only two meals to be able to enjoy the beautiful surroundings. The terms changed again this week-end and we are now obliged to pay for food during the week-ends (what was included as well). In that case, we are planning to leave the farm next week to reach Puerto Madrynn, a city settled by welsh on the ocean coast.
The resume of what I am telling to the french speakers is that we went from marvellous place to another one during the first three weeks and that now, we did some trekking to the upper points that surround the city of El Bolson. It is incredible to see a nature so wilde in a place so beautifull but it will not last. As we did, many tourists come to the region and it permits to more and more people to live from that revenues and also from an handicraft fair that is held three days a week. This fair is the place to find nice articles made from wood, wool and other materials and created by some hippies who settled in the region to escape from the bigger cities. The urban area is spreading all around the original settlement and is invading the valley. I am affraid that the landscape can be destroyed by an urbanisation which looks like having no rules at all.
I also try to speak about what I learnt from the argentinian history through the names of streets and tthe discussion with our host. Argentina is a country where settled many europeans (and still some are). These people thought that this dark-colored people were bad because they believe in the sun and in the moon. So the nicest ones were taught that there is only one god and the bad ones were killed or deported to the big cities as workers. To forget that, many people use the term of spaniard to call the colonizators (if you followed me, I said that they were not only spanish) and use the term of Llegos (diminution of Gallegos) and Tanos (diminution of Napolitanos) to call the spanish and the italians who went after. The rest of the world consists in two regions, the poor south america and the gringos (supposed to be a shortage of "green go home", a sentence used by latin american to push out the ones of the north with green clothes). If the south america is poor, it is mostly because of the gringos who steal all the richness of these country (that is not false) and enpowered some militars for them to rule these poor people with the strength while they were using them to get out the treasures of the underground. This situation is not completely ended but mostly, the owners of companies are now rich locals. Argentina is one of the richest (if it is not the richest) country of this continent and the main part of the lands are owned by a few people (mostly descendants of the spaniards if I understood well).
